How To Find Your Kitten’s Gender?

When you adopt a cat, buy a cat or you find out your cat has given birth to new kittens, it is important to know their genders, as it can be very hard as kittens can go to their heat period soon after four or five months of their birth.

Many of the cat owners find it very difficult to understand the gender of their cats and newborn kittens so they visit the veterinarian for knowing their kitten’s gender.

In today’s blog, we will give you the gist of knowledge to handle the gender of your new kitten on your own. And to be very specific about their gender identification, It is better to wait for 5 to 6 weeks of their age for fully mature genitals.

Let’s take you to some steps of identifying Kitten’s Gender:

Based on a male and female cat or their bodily appearances is it hard to know their gender but if you can understand their feelings and what they look for may give you some ideas, however, there are some key differences between their sexes.

Step-1: Handle with care

Address your cat or kitten with gentle care and try not to scare them, if your kitten is already frightened then abort the mission.

Some cats do not prefer to be handled so before you start your procedure, start making your kitten comfortable around and play with your cat if necessary.

Step-2: Examination

lift your cats/kitten’s tail gently with one arm and hold him/her in the forearm with your other arm in your comfortable area, for e.g., your bed or couch, and do not drop your cat. You can always ask

for a separate pair of hands for help. In case your cat opposes you to lift her/his tail, try a different technique to scratch her/him on the buttered, she/he will lift her tail herself/himself.

Step-3: Differentiating one from the other

Try comparing the genitalia of this blog and also compare it with pictures.

Observe carefully the physical appearances below the tail as male genitalia is easier to spot. A male cat will have an anus, scrotum covered with furs, and a penis with two sticking-out testicles.

Apply the same procedure to match it with the description and if it does not match then, try to look for the signs of female genitalia.

A female cat will have a shorter distance between the anus and vulva, typically about half an inch (1.3 cm) apart.

Step-4: By their coat color

Occasionally, the fur color of the cat or kitten may indicate the sex of the kitten. Tortoiseshell cats with three colors – white, black, and orange are almost always female. Ginger cats are predominantly male, but can sometimes be female. The love of Persian cats is more in people rather than other cats nowadays.

Step-5: By their behavior

Male cats are more aggressive than females and have larger heads and thick skin. They like to roam, sometimes leaving for a few days at a time. Female cats are more attention-seeker and show fondness to their owners. If you are not clear with the appearances of your cat’s genitals then you can contact us for more.
